Celebrating the Launch of a Remarkably Inspiring Book

Posted on Fri December 12, 2025.

The recently refurbished venue Shores Keep in Hermanus was honoured to welcome Chris Bertish to stay the night and share his stories and adventures on a memorable, fun evening.

Judy knows Chris from school in Rondebosch and they have kept in contact over the years. She has even used him as a motivational speaker while she was working at Old Mutual, so knew the local audience would enjoy his adventurous tales. We offered Chris a night here and a free venue on his way up to Wilderness to continue his SA book launch tour of his new book “Super Stoked”.

A fun and meaningful way to help and pay tribute to an incredible man who has literally put his life on the line to push boundaries in achieving his goals.

With just 10 days to prepare for something we hadn’t done at Shores Keep before, we had to spring into action to attract a group of people that would make the evening a success! We were hoping for in excess of 20 people to give Chris a calm start to his travels and still be a worthwhile audience. Chris was very efficient with a digital flyer to help us on our way and soon we were receiving enthusiastic RSVP’s that made us relax as the numbers approached our target of 20 at a steady pace. When they started to go past 30 we were a little concerned, by 40 we were thinking about the number of chairs we could rustle up and how to change up our food offering, by 50 we had abandoned the idea of catering for everyone and Judy efficiently organized a local food truck to pitch in. By 60 we were bringing in additional chairs from afar and a delightful winemaker from Pearly Beach called Trevor of Lost Boy Wines to provide a tasting. The numbers went past 70 and we held our breath as the RSVP’s tapered off – we couldn’t take many more!

The evening was a delight, meeting new people and anticipating the adventures to be told while watching cars filling all available space in the area. Wine flowed and food was ordered, seating room for 60 was almost enough and the standing room fitted the rest and a few more could have been welcomed!

What a delightfully energetic and animated storyteller Chris turned out to be. He lived his moments with an appreciative audience who hung on his words and marvelled at his videos and pictures, gasping in near disbelief in all the right places and listening with rapt attention.

What made it so special is that Chris pursues his own goals single mindedly whilst using his adventures to help thousands of people. Firstly, through charitable foundations and secondly by compelling and motivating others to find no excuse for not pursuing their dreams.

His books are direct, unpretentious, full of soul and inspiring in so many meaningful ways.

He devotes a large part of the book “Super Stoked” to chapters of directly applicable motivational processes, advise and practical steps to strengthen your own journey of discovery and achievement.

The book signing and sales was a special time – watching people having a word or two with Chris and taking pictures with him enthusiastically was heart-warming. Acquiring and reading this book and the others he has written does ample justice to the hours spent in doing so.

Hearing how many people felt inspired to pursue their own goals was, in itself, rewarding.
It also reinforced our concept of making Shore’s Keep an inspirational place,  a place where dreams are forged and we can help coaching others to seek their own goals.

For our part we were delighted to have hosted Chris and honoured to have been a small part of his big launch tour.

Shores Keep thanks all who attended at such short notice and knows for certain that everyone had an interesting and inspiring evening!

We will be hosting more events so keep an eye on us and stay in touch for updates on upcoming events on our website and social media for the latest news.

Best wishes
